According to historical information, the water mill is said to date from 1556.
The first miller Poitzmann probably came from the surrounding village of Poitzen (near Faßberg).
The mill was operated until 1949. In 1975 the building was acquired by the city of Munster and the mill was restored in 1987 as part of the urban development subsidy.
