The bridge over the Aland was part of the Salzwedel - Geestgottberg railway line, which opened in 1922. In December 2004, train operations were finally discontinued. The bridge is passable for hikers and cyclists.

Since 2010 there have been no trains running over the railway bridge that crosses the Aland near Geestgottberg. But there is a bridge path that you can cross on foot or by bike. However, on the other side of the bridge there are no developed bike or footpaths.
In any case, the bridge is a great photo opportunity.
