The landmark of Gielde is the famous "Gielder Oak" on the highest point of the Eichberg, a tree steeped in history in the middle of a former cremation cemetery from the Iron Age (7th century BC). Until the 2nd century AD, the dead from the area were buried there. This is proven by finds that are attributed to the Teutons and Cheruscans.

This historic tree stands on the highest point of the Eichberg near Gielde.
It stands in the middle of a former cremation cemetery: the dead of the area were buried there until the 2nd century AD.
From here you have a wonderful panoramic view. A nearby bank invites you to rest. One of the four new stamping stations for the northern Harz foothills has been located here since autumn 2022.
