Church Franciscus_van_Assisikerk

The Franciscus van Assisikerk is a church building in Reijmerstok in the Dutch South Limburg municipality of Gulpen-Wittem. It is located on the main street through the village.

The church was built in 1922 with elements of expressionism to the design of architect Jos Wielders from Sittard. The building is constructed of brick in two shades and is placed perpendicular to the road with a rectangular floor plan with rounded corners. It is covered with a saddle roof with slates. On the street side, at the head of the church, there is a tower with entrance. Between the street and the church there is an access staircase to reach the higher church. The church building has a saddle roof tower.

The old church of Reijmerstok from 1838 was built of marl and was also dedicated to Franciscus van Assisi. This is now located to the left of the current church and has been renovated. It is a neoclassical hall church that was built when the parish separated from that of Gulpen. After the new church was put into use in 1922, the old church was converted into a banquet hall and residence.

The current church building is a national monument and is dedicated to Francis of Assisi.
