    This is the site of the Roman Littleborough Crossing. On both sides of the river was a large Roman town called Segelacum which was built in 100-400AD.

    Rumour has it that before its demolition, the crossing was used by King Harold, William the Conqueror and Dick Turpin - not all at once! 😅
