The Steyr Spring is the source of the Steyr River and is picturesquely located at the foot of the Totes Gebirge mountains in Upper Austria, near Hinterstoder. Here, the crystal-clear, ice-cold water emerges from the karst rock – fed by underground tributaries from the mountains. The surrounding area is unspoiled, wildly romantic, and a popular destination for hikers and nature lovers. From the Baumschlagerreith parking lot, a family-friendly hiking trail leads to the source in about 15 minutes. The Steyr Spring marks the beginning of a river that later flows through the town of Steyr and eventually empties into the Enns River – shaping life and work in central Upper Austria for centuries.
What's special about it is that the river already originates here as a proud stream!
