The walk to the Glymur waterfall starts at a parking lot at the end of Hvalfjörõur (road 47), where you turn right onto a dirt road. From this parking lot you start the walk of approximately 3.2 km, which leads you through beautiful landscapes and past breathtaking views. The route to the waterfall is indicated with stones with yellow markings and various signs, so it is not very complicated to follow the route. Although there is no information center, the markings and signs along the route provide plenty of information for hikers. It is important to remember that the hike can be challenging with steep inclines and river crossings, so make sure you are well prepared.

The gravel road to the hiking car park is well developed and therefore no problem with the car. At the parking lot there is an information board with the route. The ascent to the edge of the waterfall is via a rocky path and proper hiking shoes are required. When we first visited in June 2010, the waterfall was still the highest in Iceland.

A hike to the second highest waterfall in Iceland, the Glymur, is worthwhile in any case, because it leads through a valley that is almost lovely for Icelandic conditions, with blooming lupine fields, with willow bushes full of chirping birds and through reforested forests. The distance to the waterfall is 2.5km from here. By 2011, the Glymur with 196m was the highest waterfall in Iceland, then in 2007 in the southeast on the glacier Morsárjökull Morsárfoss discovered and measured in 2011 for the first time. He is 227m high. The hiking maps that I have photographed, you can see that you can hike from here even deeper into the mountains. Fixed hiking or mountain boots are recommended. The gravel road to the parking lot is well developed.
