The pond is an artificial body of water and was initially referred to as the castle pond, until it owed its current name to the later "residents". A beautiful circular path with benches leads around the pond. There you will find the castle with the Heidemuseum, the "Schweizergarten" restaurant and a small playground.

The castle was built as a tower castle in the 11th century to protect the convenient Spree crossing in this area. Around 1570, Kasper von Minkwitz had the Gothic vaults on the ground floor of today's main building painted.
During the Merseburg reign, the castle was converted and expanded into a palace and a four-wing complex was built.
To further enhance the beautiful location of the castle, the swan pond was created and its banks were planted with rare trees.
