Until 2019, the monastery courtyard was the museum of the city of Lauffen. Since 2020, the monastery courtyard has been a location for events and exhibitions. It belongs to the Hölderlinhaus museum area. In earlier times, the building served as a gymnasium, meeting room, town hall, storage room and, from 1949 to 1976, as a church for the Catholic community of Lauffen.

Of the nunnery originally founded around 1250, only remnants of the surrounding wall and the former monastery church remain today. However, this is no longer in its original condition, but was rebuilt except for the south wall in 1923 from rubble stones from the monastery.

Remnants of the surrounding wall still mark the site of the nunnery founded around 1250. It was dissolved during the Reformation, and the last nuns left in 1543. The property continued to be managed as ducal monastic estate.

The grandfather and father of the poet Friedrich Hölderlin, born in Lauffen in 1770, were ducal estate managers in the 18th century, and young Friedrich spent his early childhood years here. The monastery church was demolished in 1807, except for a section of the south wall. In 1923, it was rebuilt using stones from the monastery, and remnants of the cloister were integrated into a wall along the roadside.

The building served as a gymnasium, assembly hall, town hall, storage facility, and, from 1949 to 1976, as the church of Lauffen's Catholic parish. (Lauffen am Neckar website)
