The festival and spa town of Bad Hersfeld is the district town of the district of Hersfeld-Rotenburg in north-east Hesse. Bad Hersfeld is known nationwide for the annual Bad Hersfeld Festival since 1951 in the monastery ruins. Germany's oldest folk festival, the Lullusfest, also takes place here every year.

For example, the church square has a closed half-timbered building, including the former sexton house. the oldest half-timbered house in the city, dating back to 1452.
