The New River is neither new nor a river, but a water supply aqueduct, completed in 1613, transporting drinking water from Hertfordshire to North London. Today, a 28-mile (45 km) long-distance footpath follows the watercourse, linking the city to the countryside. The route is waymarked throughout with the NR Path logo.
