Location: Auerbach in der Oberpfalz, Amberg-Sulzbach, Upper Palatinate, Bavaria, Germany
In the administrative district of Upper Palatinate are the two, each about 17 acres of chamber pond, which are of great importance for the protection of species. They are called Oberer Kammerweiher and Unterer Kammerweiher. The shores of the ponds offer a suitable habitat in zones of agglomeration from Großseggenrieden to alder-rupture forests, numerous species of dragonflies and amphibians, newts, toads and toads and the rare frog frog. The Bund Nature Conservation supervises the Kammerweiher near Auerbach in the Upper Palatinate since 1980. [4] In 2002, more than 60 species of birds were identified, including 16 endangered Red List species, in a survey of wildlife by the Federal Government. Many birds use the water surface as resting place and feeding place on the passage. In late summer, the ponds are lowered to provide mudflats for the waders (Limikolen). The extensive management of the ponds is the prerequisite for preserving and increasing biodiversity. The fish stock must be regulated by occasional fishing to ensure that enough fish are available for food, and on the other hand to the offspring of the amphibians (spawning and tadpoles, which feed the fish) a chance of survival.
