The Burschenschaftsdenkmal in the south of Eisenach on the Göpelskuppe is the war memorial for the 87 francs fallen in the German-French War of 1870/71. It was built in 1902 at the same time as a national monument of the German fraternity in memory of the unification.

The fraternity monument sits enthroned on a hill above the roofs of the Eisenach villa district - visible from afar. The monumental, 33 meter high structure is dedicated to those who committed their lives for unity and freedom in Germany in the 19th century and was inaugurated in 1902.
From here you have a wonderful view over Eisenach and over to the Wartburg. Behind the fraternity monument, a beautiful, longer trail begins slightly up to the Mosbacher Linde.
