The old Swede is a foundling. This boulder is a migmatic gneiss that was formed under the earth's surface more than 1.5 billion years ago under high pressure and heat. It came to the surface in Sweden through the uplifting of the continents and the weathering of the upper rock massifs and was transported southwards through at least two ice ages.
