  • The Marscheider Bachtal nature reserve is divided into two areas, which are separated by the A1 motorway. In the southern area, the Marscheider Bach flows through a landscape characterized by fat meadows and pastures. A shrubbery wet grassland stretches along the banks of the stream as a narrow border. In the western part along the railway line, arable land is still predominant. To the north of the village of Garschager Heide there is a forest complex of mixed beech and oak forest with very strong tree wood and a small spruce forest, which are used as an illegal household waste dump. The Marscheider Bach runs close to nature in the upper area and is straightened from Stiegelsteich. On the eastern edge of this area there is a forest complex of mixed beech forest and mixed oak forest with parcels of spruce forest, plots and reforestation areas. In the north of this sub-area, a rain retention basin with rich bank vegetation was included in the NSG. On the east side of the NSG, the Marscheider Bach again runs close to nature with a bushy border of high perennials through greasy meadows that become more humid towards the end. The northern part is still in use, the southern part has already fallen into disuse. At the edge of the motorway in the west there is a rain retention basin with a closed reed bed. It adjoins a reforestation area. A mixed ash forest grows to the roadside in the south, which merges into a mixed oak forest with thick tree wood to the east. The complex of near-natural stream, wet grassland and forest areas with old wood are valuable for endangered animal and plant species. The area is important for the regional biotope network. For nature conservation reasons, an extension of the near-natural stream course, an extensification of the use of grassland, further management of the wet meadows, and the near-natural design of the forest areas should be sought.
