Near the rest area "Sieben Linden" stands a mighty beech. The beautifully grown tree is adorned with a peculiarity, probably originating from the time of the First World War, but possibly also during the second World War. Franz Z., who accompanied his father in woodwork around 1950 as a boy, recalls that they discovered a Russian Orthodox church engraved on a tree. Probably this memory comes from a Russian, possibly Serbian prisoner of war. After decades of oblivion, this church came up again. Franz Z. went in search of said tree and found him again.
But you can easily miss them! The church is on the side of the tree facing away from the path. The tree is close to the path and he stands there almost alone and is just huge. The carving is not a very special piece of art, but because of the history around it is nice to discover it!

A beautiful story that seems quite believable. It is also an exciting task for hikers, whether we will find the tree or not.

Near the Sieben Linden there is a huge red beech, where a Russian soldier once carved a church into the trunk, which has grown with the tree and can still be admired today.
