Quaint and very nice mountain hut in an exposed location. Old spacious dining room with very good food.

The whole house itself is really an experience, everything is made of wood, everything creaks and in general there is a very alpine romantic mood.

The Karwendelhaus (1,765 meters above sea level) is a well-equipped refuge near the Hochalmsattel in the Karwendel. It almost visually merges with the rocks.

It opened in 1908 after five years of construction. No wonder it took so long; 4,000 cubic meters of rock had to be removed with picks and dynamite. But the pioneers' efforts were worth it.

Because of its central location, the refuge, which has now been awarded the environmental seal of quality and is also well equipped, is an important base for mountaineers on multi-day Karwendel tours. It is also a popular destination for mountain bikers. They all come together in the over 100-year-old, cozy restaurant. Well-known mountains all around: Birkkarspitze, Western Karwendelspitze, Ödkarspitzen, Große Seekarspitze, Vogelkarspitze, Kuhkopf.
