Hiking Highlight
In the former monastery on the summit above the fortress ruins there is now a mountain hut. For a few euros you can stay up here in simple bunk beds with a unique view. In the bar of the mountain hut, day hikers can also get a hot coffee in winter or a cool drink in summer. All supplies for the guests are brought up the mountain in an environmentally friendly manner by the two curious donkeys.

The Castell d'Alaró is not only famous as a historical place, but also as the destination of the most beautiful hiking routes in Mallorca. The ascent takes you over easy to moderately difficult routes through the breathtaking Tramuntana mountains. On the 822 meter high castle you can enjoy a panoramic view as far as Palma.

You can already see the mighty ruins of the Castell d'Alaró on the mountain peak of the Puig d'Alaró from afar. It was first mentioned in 902 when the Moors seized power over Mallorca. The fortress was considered impregnable for centuries and is still a symbol of freedom in the cultural memory of the islanders. The castle has been an official Spanish cultural monument since 1931.

The ascent from Orient is also very nice, because you have the 1000ender of the Tramuntana in the back and the valley is under one.
Unfortunately, there are hardly any parking spaces there.

One of the most beautiful places on the island!

The Puig Alaro can be reached on various hiking trails. Coming from the south I can recommend it here, komoot.de/tour/163159420/embed. Once at the top you can admire the Castell Alaro and its castle courtyard, furthermore you have a great view of the Tramuntana peaks, the fertile plain, the La Victòria peninsula and the Cap Ferrutx. On the descent, you can enjoy the best shoulder of Mallorca in the Es Verger farm.

One of the nicest rest stops on the whole island Mallorca. Now with coffee and cake supply.
Gigantic view over two thirds of the island.

For the view alone, the hardships of the ascent are worthwhile.

Great views. If you go sharply to the left after the entrance, along the wall to the rear, you are at least in March for yourself.

From Castell we have a beautiful panoramic view of the island. Here we find no bus tourists, only nature lovers. Good walkable path, with the bike is the last section rather not suitable.

It's worth it, but you should skip the weekend. Because it is also a place of pilgrimage for the locals and Spanish holidaymakers who come with full buses

We drove to the end of the road (at the inn on the left over and over) and with our 2.5-year-old the route to Castell walked. It took longer, but it was easy to master. Walking shoes are good, but we also made it to sn sneakers well.
Nice route and great views. Attention: above no toilet or running water!

On the way up to the Castell d'alaro, on the way up, there is a small restaurant at the end of the paved road, where you can eat excellent leg of lamb. Of course there are other Mallorcan delicacies.
It is worth the look in the restaurant!

Very nice hike with a nice view, we did it a bit over the day so it has become quite a big round.

A climb that is definitely worth it - with a clear view.
You can enjoy a really beautiful view. The ascent itself is warm, but the paths are good. The signs are exemplary and the descent over the finca "Es Veger" is almost comfortable.

The Castell d'Alaró (Castilian de Alaró Castile) is the ruin of a rock castle below the 825 meter high mountain peak Puig d'Alaró in the municipality of Alaró on the Spanish Mediterranean island of Mallorca. It is located about three kilometers north of the town of Alaró. The name Alaró derives from the Arabic al'-run and means Roman, Byzantine or Christian. [1] The castle is accessible via a paved road from Alaró and a subsequent climb. Since 1931, the ruin is Spanish cultural monument and today belongs to the city of Alaró, the diocese of Mallorca and a private owner.

The Castell d'Alaró is one of Mallorca's destiny places. Its origins on the strategically important Puig d'Alaró mountain date back to the Bronze Age.
The oldest documents about the fortress castle date back to 902. The Castell d'Alaró resisted the Saracen conquest for eight and a half years. It entered Mallorcan legend through the commanders Cabrit and Bassa, who defended the castle against Alfonso III in 1285 and were cruelly executed by the king. The two are now regarded as great historical figures on the island and are honored as martyrs in the castle chapel.
