Elżbieta Zawacka was a Polish underground fighter. The high school teacher traveled to London several times during the war and finally took part in the Warsaw Uprising. She was the only female parachutist in the Home Army. For her services, she was promoted to Brigadier General in 2006. After the war she was initially imprisoned by the communist regime and was only released after 4 years. Shortly before her 100th birthday, she died in her hometown.
