Best Hikes to GDR Border Marker 324

Tips

  • On the entire inner German border stood 2735 border pillars, all of which were numbered.
Here stands the GDR border post 324.
Now, the Green Belt allows a clear view of the heathland with its biotopes.

  • The GDR border pillars (also known as GDR border posts) were markings of the GDR's state border and were first set up on the inner-German border in autumn 1967.
The location was initially about one meter behind the border line, later they were moved back about 5 to 10 meters to GDR territory.
The reason was damage from the West German side.
The border pillars had a sign below the top of the pillar with the state coat of arms of the GDR and the state name.
