Sgorr Dhearg is one of the twin Munro summits of Beinn a’ Bheithir, a magnificent, horseshoe-shaped mountain just south of Ballachulish on the banks of both Loch Linnhe and Loch Leven. At 3,360 feet (1,024 m), Sgorr Dhearg is the higher of the two summits and lies at the eastern end of the peak. Sgorr Dhonuill, its sister summit, lies a little west and it’s easy to bag both.

    Hiking

Sgòrr Dhearg is most notable for its elegant curving ridgeline when seen from the neighbouring subsidiary summit of Sgòrr Bhan. It makes for a classic scene in winter – a glorious white arc of virgin snow.

It is Beinn a' Bheithir's principal summit and one of two Munros on this huge mountain, along with Sgòrr Dhònuill. Linking the two together is easy enough by descending to a high bealach before ascending the other.

Perhaps the finest and most exciting way up Sgòrr Dhearg is via the Schoolhouse Ridge and Sgòrr Bhan – a rewarding Grade I scramble.

    Mountaineering

Sgorr Dhearg is the Munro summit of Beinn a' Bheithir that sits on the east side of the mountain. We approached from Ballachulish in the north through woodland before hitting thick cloud. We were all smiles on the summit though, this Munro (together with Sgorr Dhonuill) make for a great walk.
