The border eagle is located directly on the Rennsteig on the Thuringian Forest near Oberhof and actually denotes the man-high landmark with Prussian eagle, which marked the former border on the rifleman between Prussia and Kurhessen.

In consequence of the German war 1866 the circle Schmalkalden of Prussia was annexed and along the hitherto kurhessischen border all boundary marking stones with the "kurhessischen lion" were replaced by stones with the royally Prussian eagle coat of arms. The landmark in question is an approximately 1.80 m high stone, which is rounded off in accordance with the regulations on the top. On the show side (to the street) is a cast-iron metal plate with the Prussian coat of arms motif embedded.

The approximately 1.80m tall stone with a cast-iron metal plate and Prussian coat of arms is located directly at the large parking lot of the Lotto-Thuringia-Arena. The striking land monument marked the state border between the Kingdom of Prussia and the Duchy of Saxony-Coburg & Gotha. In addition, the border eagle offers you a good orientation point for your hikes in the Thuringian Forest.
