The "Barßeler Roter Sand" is the small, 14 meter high replica of the famous lighthouse "Roter Sand" northeast of the island Wangerooge. It was built in 1986 and has since shaped the image of the Barßeler harbor.

        1986

Roter Sand is the name of a lighthouse in the German Bight. The structure, designed by Carl Friedrich Hanckes (1829–1891) and built by the Aktiengesellschaft für Eisenindustrie und Brückenbau between 1880 and 1885, is no longer in use as a beacon, but still serves as a daytime visual aid. The lighthouse is considered the world's first offshore structure. It became a symbol of technical progress in the German Empire and is still one of the most famous lighthouses in Germany today. On October 31, 2010, it was awarded the title of Historic Landmark of Civil Engineering in Germany.
