The Vorwerkpark is a special highlight in April / May because of the many rhododendron bushes in many different colors, one can not stop wondering. But otherwise also a highlight with the small lakes. Popular place to go for a walk

In 2001, the park was opened unofficially after extensive refurbishment and opened to the public. Since the spring of 2010, Vorwerkpark has been able to go online via a WiFi hotspot.

The park is partly only well maintained and roadworthy, but the former ideas can still be read. An interesting piece of horticultural history.

A very nice and quiet park. Invites for walking and hiking. In places a very nice view and if the orchard blooms in the summer, a pleasure for the eyes.

Spring 2021: On our route the "Vorwerkpark" joins south over the mountain, which is a real highlight on our way.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the industrialist Adolf Vorwerk clearly knew how to look beautiful. After all, the park has been open to the public since 2000.
An exciting mix of park and wilderness awaits us. The plantations of the many rhododendrons, whose thick, mossy trunks testify to their age, stretch down to the valley by the Murmelbach.
The hillside location and the abandoned old quarry form the basis for the wildness of the park.
Today, when the weather is cautiously nice, the park is still almost deserted in the morning. On weekends when the sun is shining, we will not visit.

The Vorwerk - Park, accessible by bus from the Toelleturm, by car you have to look for a parking space in the Toelleturm / Adolf Vorwerk Straße area, which could be difficult on weekends when the weather is nice, is open for walks all year round. Cycling is not permitted.
The facility is beautifully located on a steep slope and offers viewpoints, ponds and sometimes quite steep paths and stairs.
A visit is particularly recommended from mid to late May when the rhododendrons are in full bloom. Guided tours are also offered during this time (not this year due to Corona!).
The Barmer facilities, the Murmelbachtal, the Marscheider Bachtal and the Scharpenacken are in the immediate vicinity.

The Vorwerk Park. Wonderfully beautiful spot. Unfortunately very crowded. You have to catch the right day at the right time, then you can enjoy it wonderfully. Especially when the rhododendrons are in bloom😍

In 1895, Adolf Vorwerk built what would later become the family seat, the "Villa Emma" at Friesenstrasse 23 (today Adolf-Vorwerk-Strasse 23) as a summer house in the Swiss villa style. Additional facilities included the upper parks, an arcade, lower parks with a quarry and goldfish pond, a grotto with a waterfall, a bathing pond and a pump house on the Marper Bach.

The villa was inhabited until 1959 and was later demolished. In connection with the construction of the "Villa Emma", Adolf Vorwerk also had a 73 meter long arcade (pergola) built on a retaining wall, which forms the border to the facilities of the Beautification Association. The agreement that the view into the Marper- / Murmelbachtal is not blocked by planting trees is not permanent. Forests emerged in the second half of the 20th century. The arcade falls into a deep slumber, from which it was only awakened after the turn of the 21st century.

Around 1907, out of love for nature, Adolf Vorwerk had a desolate old quarry transformed into a rhododendron park. The well-known tree nursery specialist and breeder Nissen is said to have been involved in the planning. After Adolf Vorwerk's death, his son Wilhelm took over responsibility for the park, which remained inaccessible to the public. In 1950 a fish pond was created in the Vorwerk Park, and more rhododendron bushes were planted.

Great park with a large population of rhodedendrons. Here you can stroll for hours and linger in beautiful places.
There are plenty of benches with beautiful views.
You just have to consider (e.g. for people with foot problems) that the park is sometimes very steep.

On November 4, 1967, Wilhelm Vorwerk, son of Adolf Vorwerk, who initiated the development of the area around the Toelleturm, and great-grandson of the founder of the Vorwerk & Sohn company, died. After the Second World War, he was offered the chairmanship of the Barmer Beautification Association and he accepted the challenge of freeing the Barmen grounds from the traces of the Second World War and healing the wounds. On April 8, 1971, the BVV inaugurated the Wilhelm-Vorwerk-Anlage on Höhenweg in the Barmer Wald, for which the sculptor Eugen Busmann made a bronze plaque on behalf of the BVV.
