Best Hikes to Miętusi Pass

Tips

  • A small pass, from which the glades offer beautiful views of Giewont, Czerwone Wierchy and more. This pass separates the Mała Łąka Valley from Kościeliska and Miętusia. A good place to stop.

  • There is a place in the Tatra Mountains that even the locals don't know much about, it's none other than the Krakow Gorge, named after the narrow streets of Krakow. It is accessed via the Koscieliska Valley via a narrow path, and is so rarely visited that no one else was there except us, although quite a few people were hiking a few meters away. It's a completely different world from the valley, the bottom of the gorge is slippery, it's a few degrees cooler than in the canyon (10 vs 0), there's still snow, even though it's about 10 steps from the gravel road to the crater. The gorge itself is a narrow, rocky, about 100-meter-long canyon, which ends with a cave called the Dragon Cave, through which we can reach the Pisana glade. The gorge is considered the most beautiful rock gorge in the Western Tatras, its moss-covered side walls exude a fairy-tale atmosphere. The 360° image shows the widening called Market Square, from where we can climb up to the cave entrance using a ladder and then chains, which is also visible in the image. The only safety is our hands, which we grip the chain with, although my knee was always a few centimeters below my son's bottom, but it was not needed. The passage through the cave itself is not easy either, we go all the way up, we can hold on to chains, my son was able to do it too, although it got quite dirty by the end 🙂 The clearing after the cave exit is also mentioned in very old documents, which is probably where its name comes from (pisana - written).

  • Nice meadow to take a break after the descent.
