The name of this chapel refers to the legend that it was built as a thanksgiving by robbers. In reality, however, it was built by steelworkers and miners who extracted iron ore here.

Hmm. I don't know about you, but the legend is more exciting!

A chapel located in the Kościeliska Valley in the Western Tatras. It is located right next to the green trail leading along the bottom of the valley, at the entrance to the Stare Kościeliska clearing.

According to legend, the chapel was built as a votive offering by highwaymen and then expanded by local miners. In reality, however, the chapel was entirely funded by miners and steelworkers who extracted and smelted iron ore from nearby mines. The chapel is made of brick, covered with shingles. It has an inscription "Ave Marya" and an emblem in the form of crossed hammers. The chapel is fenced with a wooden fence with carved figures of a highwayman and a miner.

It takes about 30 minutes to get to the chapel on foot, counting from the entrance to the Kościeliska Valley in the town of Kiry. There is an admission fee to the valley.

A lovely little chapel by the wayside.
