Today the sightseeing lime mine is an industrial monument of particular importance. In the interior of the mountain, the world reveals a very special charm at 50 meters “underground”. The guided groups of visitors travel on a mine train through a long, winding tunnel, in which brick-lined vaults alternate with stretches roughly hewn into the rock with bizarre rocky outcrops. In some places calcareous water emerged, small stalactites and larger sinter deposits formed, so that glittering crystals can be seen on the rock crevices. A fascinating sight!
In addition to the demolition sites, equipment left behind, which was used for dismantling and transport, gives a first-hand impression of the hard work of the miners. All the facilities inside the tunnels have been preserved in their original state. The insights gained will be completed “above ground” with an exhibition and a documentary film.
