Not far from the banks of the Saar is the Sankt Johanner Markt. It is the heart of Saarbrücken and invites residents and tourists to linger and stroll. The square is surrounded by cafes, restaurants and pubs. When the weather is nice, you can spend relaxing hours under the tall trees or enjoy the last rays of sunshine in the evening. For those who are adventurous, we recommend a small shopping tour through the surrounding shops and boutiques. The picturesque alleys leading off from the market square also invite you to take a leisurely stroll. Incidentally, the old town of Saarbrücken was declared a pedestrian zone as early as 1978.

Relaxed enjoyment like in France
The St. Johann market with its boutiques, pubs, bistros and restaurants is the heart of Saarbrücken life. Here you can meet or stroll through the picturesque and car-free alleys around the market square or take a break at the baroque market fountain. For more relaxation, more serenity, more enjoyment. Vive le savoir-vivre!The old town area has been a pedestrian zone since 1978. From the baroque market fountain (designed by Stengel in 1759) there is a line of sight to the castle, formerly another to the Ludwigskirche and from there one back to the castle - the so-called Stengel triangle.
