The pulpit is framed by shell niches and is located on the eastern wall.

A painting showing the council assessor Christian Kehrbach, who died in 1761, is remarkable.

The church was founded as a hospital church in the first half of the 12th century, but was closed again in 1544. The current building was built in 1712 as a cemetery church. It was consecrated in 1730. It was then used as a parish church from 1752. During the Napoleonic occupation, the church was deconsecrated. After the damage had been repaired, the church was re-consecrated and used for church purposes in 1821. Karl Memminger restored the building in 1901/1902. Another repair was carried out in 1971.
The current church building is in a baroque but simple style. The nave has a single nave on a rectangular floor plan and has large pointed arch windows located between pilasters. To the west of the nave there is a two-story porch with a simple facade that serves as the entrance area. Above it is a tower with a square floor plan as well as a hood and lantern. Existing extensions on the east side were changed in 1901/1902.
The interior of the church is covered by a mirrored ceiling with stucco work, which is attributed to the Italian Bernhardo Brentani and was completed in 1718. A fresco in the middle depicts the Last Judgement. Other frescoes are grouped around it, showing the Beatitudes, Christ, Death, and Heaven and Hell. The frescoes were completed by Wilhelm Rössel in 1727.
The Marientor, located a little further north, takes its name from the church.

The rather dilapidated church is on the left when you come from the city gate towards Naumburg city center. It now seems to be restored. We never saw them openly from 2008 to 2018.

The simple baroque church from 1730 is of course overshadowed by the city's large church buildings on the market square and cathedral square. But last but not least, it offers high-contrast photo motifs in connection with the neighboring large city gate of the Marientor.

The Church of St. Mary Magdalene was founded as a hospital church in 1144 by Bishop Udo I of Naumburg and had a small parish that extended beyond the hospital. After the Reformation, it was closed again in 1544.
The new building was built as a cemetery church between 1712 and 1730. From 1752 onwards it was used as a parish church. During the Napoleonic occupation, the building was badly damaged. After the damage had been repaired, the church was re-consecrated in 1821 and used for church purposes again.
The building was restored in 1901/1902 under the direction of Karl Memminger. A further repair took place in 1971.
