Founded around 1300, the watermill is the historical center of the community. From all over the area, the grain was ground here, for centuries only with the power of water. In 1961, the mill operation was stopped and with him the water wheel and the grinding in the building was eliminated. Founded in 1986, the water mill association has set itself the task of restoring the mill and preserving it as an important cultural asset. In 1988, the installation of the water wheel and a year later the canopy. Since 1995, electricity has been generated by the wheel, up to 25,000 kilowatt hours per year.

Must see. The history of the Schafflunder watermill dates back to the 15th century. The last miller, Johannes Mau, operated the mill until 1961. Then it became quiet around the water wheel and around the mill pond. But the salvation approached in 1986. For 30 years the mill wheel of the Schafflunder water mill has been turning again. 10 sheep trout had started in 1986 to save the old watermill. An association was founded and enthusiastically set to work. In 1988 the first waterwheel was inaugurated and the joy was great. And only one year later, the new lining of the gable wall of the mill and the roofing of the water wheel were built in-house. The club has also had to accept bitter setbacks:
So the first waterwheel was not suitable for power generation and then broke the round axle. But the "mill rescuers" did not give up. Now the mill should generate electricity. The necessary funds were made available to members of the association in 1995 and planning progressed. It added a generator and the required power generation technology. Then again there were problems, because the mill pond could not be dammed up again as desired, as the site rights had been ceded with decommissioning of the mill. But even in this situation, the mill rescuers knew advice. In 1998, a new wheel (Zuppingerrad) was designed and with the help of a so-called sole rail it was no longer necessary to build up water for the operation of the wheel. And now the mill rattles again on the rushing stream, generating environmentally friendly electricity, which is taken from the owners of the mill building, which has been lovingly restored by them. The resulting revenues are used to maintain the mill building. It is thanks to the tireless work and persistence of the "mill rescuers" that this historic jewel and cultural monument could be preserved for us.
