The avenue is part of a former English landscape park and access road to the former knight's seat of Kallenberg, which has existed here at least since the 12th century as the ancestral seat of the Lords of Ende (from Vaerst to Kallenberg since around 1400).
The old castle house was built at the beginning of the 19th century. replaced by a classical manor house.
