The Upper German-Rhaetian Limes, ennobled as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005, runs right outside the gates of Walldürn. At the so-called “Limesknick”, the Romans built a fort (today an archaeological reserve “Fort Alteburg”) and next to it a Roman bath in the so-called row type with floor heating (hypocausts). The Roman bath was archaeologically examined in the 1970s and set within its foundation walls. The entire complex is understandable in its basic structure.

The Roman border wall, the Limes, once ran here. In addition to the remains of the actual wall with its watchtowers, you can also find other relics from Roman times here and in the region, such as this Roman bath.
