While Muir Woods National Monument can get very busy on weekends and free entrance days, the crowds pretty much concentrate on the first 100 yards of the paved flat trail along Redwood Creek. Few people make it beyond the first bridge, hardly anybody gets to the 4th bridge, and if you turn off on side trails such as Fern Creek Trail there's likely nobody. Perfect to breath in the awesomeness of communing with 1000 year old tallest things on Earth.
