The so-called "Russian villa" was built between 1850 and 1854 according to plans by the famous architect Theophil von Hansen and probably got its name because Sophie Panchoulidzeff, the builder, was a Russian prince's daughter.[5] The villa hosted numerous famous guests, including Archduke Maximilian (brother of Emperor Franz Josef and later Emperor of Mexico), the Russian conductor Anton Rubinstein, Rainer Maria Rilke, Wilhelm Kienzl and Adalbert Stifter. The house is owned by the antiques dealer Jürgen Hesz, who also owns Schloss Eggendorf.
