The Way of the Cross chapels were built by the "Todesangst-Christi-Bruderschaft" in 1696 during the time of the Jesuits. Incidentally, the Calvary in Traunkirchen is the first of its kind. In 1711 one was built in Hallstatt and in 1725 in Lauffen.

Hiking

After four prayer chapels, you reach the main chapel on the centrally located Calvary via many stone steps laid in 1739. This Calvary chapel, completed in 1699 and thus the oldest in the Salzkammergut, contains a baroque crucifixion group and old murals.
