Mountain biking

It was first mentioned in documents in the 12th century. It served as a castle of the governors of Weida and Plauen. Together with the lower castle, it later belonged to the Reussian lines that dominated eastern Thuringia between Gera and Plauen. After the reunification they started to renovate the castle and unfortunately it is not finished yet.

The Upper Castle is the landmark and striking cultural monument of the city of Greiz in Thuringia. Was seat of the family and later the government authorities of the smallest principality in the German Empire (1871) the house Reuss older line. The castle accommodates a museum with a permanent exhibition on the subject of »From the land of the bailiffs to the principality of Reuss older line« (see: greiz.de/tourismus/greiz-entdecken/museen/museum-oberes-schloss.html)
