A very beautiful church, which does not give this impression from the outside, is worth taking a look at 👍

The history of the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción dates back to the 15th century. Hernán Peraza ("El Viejo") erected a single-nave chapel made of brick and quarry stone around 1450. This place of worship, a fortress as the residence of the ruler and an initial path, formed the starting points for all island connections (at that time still by ship or boat) and ultimately the nucleus of the town. The chapel then became the final resting place of the ruler's son, Guillén Peraza, and witness to the Columbus fleet's hymn of praise to Saint Mary, the Salve Marinera. At the end of the 15th century, shortly after Columbus' departure for America, the chapel was demolished and replaced by a new, three-aisled church.

Very beautiful church with a beautiful altar, a hand-carved wooden ceiling and an effigy of repelling a British attack.
