The Kniepsand is a 15 km long and 1.5 km wide sandbar off the coast of Amrum. It is a sandbar that has moved closer and closer to the island over time and has finally united with it. The Kniepsand lies above sea level, thus forming a so-called high sand, and is therefore not washed over by the North Sea even during high tide.
