Classic, simple church typical of the region without much decoration. A crucifix with a late Gothic body from 1480 hangs on the south wall. The cross dates from the 20th century. The free-standing sacrament cabinet from the 15th century has two doors. The inside of the upper door bears the painting of a seated man of pain in the late Gothic style.

The largest church in Amrum is St. Clemens Church in the small town of Nebel on the east coast of the island. The Evangelical Lutheran church was built in the 13th century. The wooden building was located between the historic island villages of Norddorf and Süddorf and belonged to the municipality of St. Johannis on the neighboring island of Föhr. The brick church was given a thatched roof typical of the region and thus fitted in well with the image of Amrum. In the meantime, the formerly towerless church has been whitewashed and now has a pretty church tower. In the 17th century, the small church received a bell, which was initially hung in a free-standing wooden frame. After the church tower, which still exists today, was built at the beginning of the 20th century with a bell belonging to it, the wooden frame was dismantled. In 1984 the tower was completely renovated. The St. Clemens Church has some art treasures that you should definitely see during a holiday on Amrum. This includes a wooden group of apostles from the early Gothic period, which is said to have washed ashore in a storm surge, as well as a Romanesque baptismal font made of reddish granite and a winged altar that shows the four evangelists. Also worth seeing is the cemetery located directly at the church. Around 150 tombstones from the period between 1670 and 1830 can be admired here, many of which are listed as historical monuments because of their elaborate depictions carved in stone.
