Left to decay from 1945, it now shines again in its old glory.

The round lock in Oberpöllnitz owes its name to the almost round ground plan.

The first mention of the round castle in a document took place in 1341 as a "rotunda with a small courtyard". In the 16th century, Georg Bernhard von Pölnitz converted the property into a simple renaissance castle. Several times the castle changed hands.

The round lock has a small courtyard in which there is an octagonal staircase tower, which is barely visible from the outside. Only the spire towers over the castle. It allows access to different floors of the building. The castle is part of a former manor house ensemble with various residential and farm buildings in the village center, which are now largely unseen.

With the expropriation of the lord of the castle, who then tragically took his own life, the steady decline was initiated. Nobody felt responsible for it. No repairs were made.

After the Second World War, the castle served mainly as a residence for Aussiedler families.

Often the money was missing to get such an object. In 1977 it was cleared because of dilapidation and should be demolished. But even that was missing the money. As a result, the castle continued to deteriorate, but at least it stopped. The roof broke and walls just collapsed.

From 1992, the roof, the walls and the interior ceilings were comprehensively secured and renovated in several annual sections with great financial expenditure and with the support of the German Foundation for Monument Protection.

Now it has been privately owned since 2005. Since then, the castle is constantly being built. The external appearance is restored.

Until the day of the open monument, the castle was always to visit. (Http://christianhildebrand.de/hil/schloesser/oberpoellnitz/oberpoellnitz.htm)

You can go out of it in the next few years. Later, a restaurant is to be built in the castle.
