Master builder Balthasar Neumann (1687-1753) created the high altar from gilded wood and marble of different colors. The southwest tower is also called donkey storm because the donkeys transported the building material here; there are no levels! There is a lot to discover and is pleasantly cool in summer. A tour in the outside area is also recommended, with a visit to the Heylspark right next door.

    Opening times in the summer half-year: 9 a.m. to 5.45 p.m., in the winter half-year 10 a.m. to 4.45 p.m., unless a service is taking place.

As usual in buildings of this type - is usually a part of scaffolding obscured, which reduce the splendor a bit. Definitely worth a visit. Beautiful architecture, pretty murals and the small crypt are a bit puny - but the visitors are asked for only 10 cents.

Should be visited when visiting the city in any case. The adjoining the cathedral Heylshofpark offers a beautiful, in my opinion the most beautiful view of the cathedral.

The cathedral of St. Peter in Worms is the smallest of the three Rhenish imperial cathedrals. The Worms cathedral is steeper and slimmer designed and about a hundred years younger than the dome in Speyer and Mainz. It was built essentially from 1130 to 1181.

Since 2002, the cathedral is also the backdrop of the Nibelungen Festival and there is an actual connection to the Nibelungen saga. The first church building at this point, where today is the cathedral, took place in about 600 under the regency of the "royal widow" Brunchildis (Merowinger). If the Nibelungenlied contains a reproduction of Western culture, Brunichildis could well have been the historical model for Brünhild. There are countless historical events to tell about the cathedral itself. In the current construction of the controversial "Haus am Dom", new foundations have recently been discovered that raise interesting questions.

The Dombauverein has gathered a lot of information about the cathedral:

Beautiful cathedral, beautifully decorated inside and very large! Definitely worth a look. You can visit the crypt with 10 sarcophagi, entry costs 10 cents.
The cathedral can also be seen from the outside. Taking pictures with conventional cameras, let alone cell phone cameras, is not really worth it. It is already very dark in the cathedral.

Please set the phone to silent beforehand!

This is not only a historic building but also a living witness to the religious conflict.
