The table with its two benches, surrounded by birch trees, might tempt passersby to take a short break for refreshment. Beyond this rest area, however, there is a wooden wayside cross bearing the body of the crucified Christ. A special feature of this small sacred monument, known as the "Eisner Cross," is an image of the Virgin Mary holding the infant Jesus on her lap below the figure of Jesus. This unusual combination of images can be interpreted as the beginning of Jesus's work of redemption through his incarnation and its completion through his death on the cross.
