Stora Torget is the oldest and most central square in Linköping. The square is cut through by Storgatan, which is car-free but served by buses. The square is sometimes unofficially called Filbytertorget. In the middle of the square and along the Storgatan stands Carl Milles Folkungabrunnen, a fountain made of diabase with a Folke Filbyter made of patinated bronze. It was inaugurated on December 12, 1927. It was paid for by Leonard and Ida Westman's Fund for Linköping's Decoration of Works of Art, which was founded in 1911 by their son Henric Westman, who is one of the city's main donors.

On the south side of the square is the old town hall, which today houses several restaurants. In the south-western part is the Central Palace, a larger building in the strict Art Nouveau style from 1907. On the west side of the square is the Jonn O. Nilson Palace, built in 1893 and designed by Ullrich & Hallquisth, Filbytergallerian and a bank.

Along the north side are some 18th century buildings that house cafes and restaurants.

On the east side of the square is the Great Hotel, built in 1876 and expanded by a fourth floor in 1893. On the other side of Storgatan is the 1926 Business Palace.

The square was the venue for the 2015 Musikhjälpen and was called "Love Square" this week.
