This diverse reservoir is recommended in every season. He or his environment also has a lot to offer the kids.
The fish ladder with the glass underwater area is definitely recommended for the kids. Here you can watch the fish (when they pass by) like in an aquarium.

  • The Obermaubach reservoir was built in 1933/34 and, together with the Heimbach dam, serves to compensate for the irregular water discharges from the Heimbach and Schwammenauel peak-flow hydropower plants. In 1969, a hydroelectric power plant with a feed-in capacity of 0.65 MW was built on the dam, which is operated by RWE Innogy. The reservoir holds 1.65 million cubic meters of water. Source: wver.de

  • The reservoir has a lot to offer for fishing enthusiasts. Pikeperch, pike, char and brown trout are not long in coming. A day pass can be purchased for 10 euros in the Strepp restaurant directly on the lake.

  • When the construction of the Urft dam began in 1900, no one could have known that it was also a decision to build the Obermaubach reservoir. The reservoir and the Urft dam are closely interwoven.
The Rurthalsperrengesellschaft, which was founded to build the dam at Urft, had decided to finance the project, Heimbach a power plant - the "Art Nouveau power plant" - to build, which should be won electricity from hydropower. Through a tunnel through the Kermeter and a subsequent pressure line water from the Urftsee was steered with a steep slope on the turbines. Electricity as a young form of energy was a growth market during this time, and so the power plant was able to work in continuous operation.

The idyllically situated Obermaubach reservoir with the highest fish ladder in North Rhine-Westphalia, water bird breeding area as well as an attractive hiking area around the lake and forest and water trails is both a paradise for water sports enthusiasts and hikers. Find out more at the" Seestern "kiosk, Seestr.19b, right next to the dam wall over the many recreational opportunities.
The most varied types of fish attract the passionate Petrijünger in the reservoir.
Erected in 1933/34 by the Obermaubach Reservoir Water Association, it serves, together with the Heimbach reservoir, to compensate for the peak electricity demand of the Heimbach and Schwammenauel hydropower plants. A power station at the foot of the dam has been supplying 600 kW of electricity to the RWE network since 1968. ... "

  • There it is very scenic and there are very good cake or food. But nice is the fish ladder at the dam. Just have a look and enjoy. Hikes in the surrounding area are also very nice. I like this area

  • This reservoir was built in 1933/34 as a weekly compensation reservoir. A road leads across the dam (240m long, 5m wide). In 2007 the reservoir was renovated and a fish ladder was built. Observation balconies were also laid out on the dam.

  • Manageably low dam wall with a beautiful view over the lake and down into the valley. The fish ladder is worth seeing. There are places to stop for refreshments (kiosk, cafe, restaurant with beer garden) at both ends of the dam wall.
