The church has an eventful history of use. With the Reformation in the 16th century, Otzberg and the surrounding area also became Protestant. From 1770 to 1900 a phase followed in which the building was used as a simultaneous church by the Protestant and Catholic parishes. In 1900 the Protestant community had a separate church built on Odenwaldstrasse and left the previous simultaneous church to the Catholic community for sole use.
