Ostland crosses are distributed throughout Germany as memorials to displaced persons. They commemorate those displaced from the eastern territories of the German Reich and the German settlement areas in southeastern Europe. The cross on the southeastern slope of the Hungerberg is around twelve meters high. A church service is held here every Easter morning at 5:30 a.m. The highest Ostland cross in Germany is actually not that far away: it is located in Geislingen an der Steige in the Göppingen district and is a good ten meters higher.

An Ostland cross with altar (♁⊙; approximately 340 metres; both made of concrete) stands north of the Remstal on the southeast slope of the Hungerberg (382.3 metres) in the eastern part of the municipality of Winterbach near the municipal border with Schorndorf. Once a year - on Easter morning at 5.30 a.m. - a church service takes place there.
