Inspired by the excavations in Pompeii, King Ludwig I had this ideal replica of a Roman house built by the architect Friedrich von Gärtner from 1840 to 1848. The reception and guest rooms, the kitchen and the dining room are arranged on the ground floor around two inner courtyards, the atrium with its water basin and the green Viridarium in the rear part of the house.

The Roman villa once the summer residence of King Louis the first one is told is a special feature. Great views over Main, grape vines and of course the magnificent view of the imposing castle Johannisburg. 😀
