The upper gate on the east side of the old town of Waldshut is also called Schaffhauser Tor. The eastern city gate was built on foundations from the 13th century. Above was the room of the tower keeper, who also watched over the Rhine and the city. The gate was the city prison until 1864.

The upper gate on the east side of the old town of Waldshut is also called Schaffhauser Tor.
The foundations of the gate date from the 13th century. It functioned as the eastern city gate and contained the apartment of the tower guard on the upper floors, who had a view in all directions.
