The town of Blankenberg has a history of more than 800 years, which can be read from the monuments, the castle, walls and towers and the church.
The civil settlement that attached to the castle was granted city rights in 1245. In 1248 Archbishop Konrad von Hochstaden granted parish rights to the Church of St. Catherine of Alexandria.
