The Jack Layton Ferry Terminal serves as the main gateway to the Toronto Islands and welcomes approximately 1.3 million visitors annually. The current terminal at the foot of Bay Street opened in 1972 after the previous terminal was demolished as part of the waterfront redevelopment. In 2012, it was officially renamed in honor of the late politician Jack Layton; it was originally known as the Toronto Island Ferry Docks.
The terminal is the starting point of a city-operated, year-round ferry service connecting Hanlan's Point, Centre Island Park, and Ward's Island on the Toronto Islands.
